What's on

WALKING

A great region that is the least explored. There is a great selection of hiking and walking paths across colourful meadows and up to panoramic ridges; the views of Lake Maggiore and Lake Lugano are unparalleled.

BIKING

An area that ought to be discovered. The Ticino Bike Card is a great way to combine the majestic scenery of the Alps with the mild-climate of the lake towns. Hire includes bike and helmet from CHF 39 per adult per day.

GOLF

Golf enthusiasts will love Ticino’s wonderful courses.

Ascona:

18 holes; Par 71; Length 5933m; Altitude 200m; HCP 30; Green fees from CHF 130 per round and CHF 190 per day.

ON THE WATER

From swimming on the lakes to pedal boat rental, or waterskiing to sailing, the Ticino region offers it all. The opportunity to sail on Lakes Verbano (Maggiore) or Ceresio (Lugano), is a wonderful way to relax.

MARKETS

Lugano’s flowers, fruits and vegetables market runs on Tuesday and Friday mornings. The Bellinzana market is well worth the trip on a Saturday morning with a great range of produce and crafts.

All prices are in Swiss Francs and are based on 2010 rates which may be subject to change.

Ascona & Locarno

We love it for...

  • Mediterranean climate
  • Beautiful lakeside settings & colourful piazzas
  • Italian influences

The picturesque resort of Ascona on the shores of Lake Maggiore has long been known as an artists' paradise. The virtually traffic-free lakeside promenade is a mosaic of old buildings with flower-filled window boxes, while the narrow winding streets, cool arcades, shaded courtyards and colourful piazzas all give a delightful atmopshere in a magnificent lakeside setting. Stroll through Ascona's little alleyways with attractive shops, art galleries, craft centres, restaurants and cosy bars. In the evening the town comes to life, there is music and dancing, concerts and open air cafes.

Locarno is one of the country's most elegant lakeside resorts, the town centre's arcades and piazzas on Piazza Grande bathe in the sunshine which graces Locarno more than any other place in Switzerland, so don't be surprised to see subtropical gardens housing bougainvillea, oleanders, cypress and palm trees.

Explore the atmospheric alleyways for the real culinary experiences on offer, Locarno's speciality is fish pulled straight out of the glistening waters of the lake.
