Zurich
Zurich is so much more than Switzerland's financial hub, a stylish, exciting global city with a beautifully preserved old town, superb dining, boutique shopping and world-renowned open house. It's also Europe's wealthiest city and has the highest quality of life of any in the world.
Sightseeing
A large eclectic selection of architecture, museums, art galleries and attractions to visit, including the Roman ruins at Lindenhof to the Grossmunster with its 11th century twin towers, the Opera house built in 1891 and the modern 'Urania' observatory with its superb panoramic views over the city. Younger visitors will enjoy exploring the zoo, which has the 'Masoala Rainforest' with its numerous plant and animal species as well as the lakeside quays or the Chinese garden.
Shopping
Bahnhofstrasse is 1.4km long and runs from the main railway station to the lake, there must be something for everyone here! Alternatively you could try the old town, Weinplatz on the left bank or Niederdorfstrasse or Munstergasse on the right bank.
Wining and Dining
With over 1,900 restaurants, Zurich offers a huge variety of international cuisines including traditional Swiss, Spanish, Hungarian and Greek. Why not try 'Hilti', the vegetarian restaurant which is over 100 years old.
Getting Around
Best done on foot or by tram or bus. We recommend you buy the Zurich card for 17CHF for 24 hours or 34CHF for 74 hours. This gives you unrestricted 2nd class travel in the Zurich area and free admission to over 40 museums and attractions. The train service in Switzerland will quickly and efficiently whisk you to those attractions outside of Zurich's boundaries.
All rates are in Swiss Francs and are based on 2009 rates, which may be subject to change.
