he great town of Lucerne is a picture perfect medieval lakeside resort. Handsome boulevards connect quaint medieval streets, old wooden bridges and flower decked lakeside promenades. The perfectly preserved 15th century town walls act as the perfect backdrop to the ornate flower decked medieval fountains.
Lucerne abounds with cosy bars and pavement cafes where you can relax with a drink day or night. There is plenty to keep you busy, from attractive walks on the lakeside or in the surrounding mountains to rowing boats, horse riding, golf and various other sports.
The shops in Lucerne match those in any major city, or for lazier days you can sunbathe, have a swim at the large lakeside lido or enjoy a cruise on one of the lake steamers.
From 12 August to 19 September 2010, Lucerne hosts the International Music Festival with concerts by world renowned artists and orchestras. The programme is published in March and is available from the `Swiss National Tourist Office in London.
