Engelberg
Engelberg is a delightful village resort which lies at the head of a beautiful valley surrounded by three mountain ranges leading up from Lake Lucerne. The heart of the village is virtually traffic free which makes shopping or sitting in a pavement cafe a pleasure.
Engelberg has a fine 12th century Benedictine monastery which is well worth a visit. One of the most popular attractions is the spectacular ride over the Titlis Glacier in the revolving cable car (the first in the world), at 3030m from which you can reach the 3239m summit of Mount Titlis. Once you get there, take in the superb views from the highest viewpoint in Central Switzerland, by having lunch in the Panorama restaurant.
You can also visit the glacier grotto and take the Ice-Flyer chairlift over the glacier. There are many other beautiful local vantage points; Brunni for example, makes an ideal starting point for some good walks on miles of marked paths.
