Montreux
The world famous resort of Montreux has an impressive air of grandeur with it's elegant hotels and broad lakeside promenade. There are attractive shops, superb restaurants, bright cafes with open air terraces and an open air market once a week. Visit the 13th century lakeside Château de Chillon on the outskirts of Montreux, Switzerland's most famous castle, which was immortalised by the poet Byron, and see the bronze statue of Freddie Mercury, overlooking the lake. Or take the rack and pinion railway up 2045m to Rochers-de-Naye. There are also some delightful walks through woods, vineyards and flower-filled meadows on the slopes behind Montreux.
Montreux plays host to several world famous events throughout the year. The highlight is July's Jazz festival. June has a sporting slant, with the World Volleyball Masters taking centre stage. As winter draws in, experience the Foire des Planches in October, a prelude to the famous Christmas market.
All guests staying in Montreux will receive a Tourist Pass offering considerable discounts off a range of local excursions and amenities.
