Walking & Hiking

The many paths and promenades along the lake in Bonigen and the Aare river makes Lake Brienz a great place for easy walks and evening strolls. Walking leaflets are available free of charge from the tourist information centre.

Lake Brienz

This beautiful lake is said to be the cleanest lake in Switzerland. Situated just north of the Alps, Lake Brienz can be found between Brienz on the east and Bönigen on the west. It is an excellent base for exploring the surrounding areas.

Lake Brienz is popular with hikers who enjoy over 500km of trails including walks in Beatenberg and Niederhorn. Cruises on Lake Brienz are popular as are trips to the Schynige Platte where breathtaking views of Mönch, Eiger and Jungfrau can be found.

There are great systems in place for trains, ferries, lake steamers and mountain railways. Charming villages nearby including Bönigen are a must to visit with their pavement cafés and shops. Ringgenberg is a delightful and typical Oberland village just 15 minutes from Interlaken by lake steamer or eight minutes by bus or train.  Lake Brienz is a very popular destination with a lively atmosphere - the ideal place to be active in whilst soaking up those stunning views!
