Kandersteg

We love it for...

  • Spectacular views of the Jungfrau & easy access to the Jungfraujoch
  • Virtually traffic free village
  • 500km of marked Walking trail

Kandersteg is an unspoilt, picturesque mountain village situated in the upper Kander valley at the north end of the 15km Lotschberg rail tunnel leading to the Valais. The resort has long been popular with the British and has preserved the character of a traditional Bernese Oberland village. It is is an area of great natural beauty being in a wide valley enclosed by towering snow capped mountains. including the might Blumlisalo and the jagged Birrenhorn. There are many beautiful walks in the alpine meadows and forests which surround the village and stunning hikes up in the mountains. There are cable cars up to Allmenalp, Sunnbuel and Oeschinen.

It's also an excellent base for many interesting train trips. There are easy links with Bern, Thun and Interlaken and through the Lotschberg tunnel to Zermatt and Italy. The village museum will tell you the history of the village and of the nearby International Scout Camp.
